BRYAN ADAMS, MARRIAGE AND OTHER ECLAVUS

When you love someone - you'll sacrifice
You'd give it everything you got and
you won't think twice

You'd risk it all -
no matter what may come
When you love someone
You'll shoot the moon - put out the sun
When you love someone…

I was on my way home, half-asleep in an FX when I heard this heartwarming ditty by Bryan Adams. I’ve heard it several times before but haven’t really paid much attention to the details of the song until yesterday.

It transported me back to the time when I and the ex-man were so much in love, back when I clung onto his promise of bringing me to the altar, build a family and live happily ever after. I guess I stopped believing in fairy tales because mine ended just before it started. In a snap of a finger, everything changed. One minute he was so determined and assuring and then the next, he became so unpredictable. He said he wasn’t ready yet and he had other plans; and surprisingly, I wasn’t part of the itinerary. It all happened during our seventh year. That was three years ago yet until today, I have no idea why he chickened out on us.

I think that Marriage is for the brave and the selfless. Brave and man enough to stand on your ground, ready to face the risk of taking another soul into your life. Selfless to share everything you got, and even willing to give what you don’t have. That is why I salute all those couples who decided to take a plunge together into the marriage pool of uncertainties and challenges: my sis and Jake, Abby and Ton, and to all the others out there who have made up their minds to share their lives together. I just hope that it was a decision made out of genuine love.

As for me, I am still waiting. Waiting if God indeed has destined a man out there for me. Yes, I do feel lonely sometimes. Frankly speaking, I envy my sis who seems so happy and contented now with li’l Zoe and husband Jake. She felt complete. Although I don’t personally believe that you need a man to complete you (contrary to Jerry Mc Guire’s popular quote, You complete me ). I think YOU COMPLEMENT ME would be more appropriate .

Sorry, that bitter root in my heart has resurfaced again. ‘to kaseng si Bryan Adams eh. But, no, I’m okay. I’m doing great. I have my sweet and caring family with me. I’ve got good friends, blog and text buddies who I consider my stress-relievers, and a decent job that gets me through the financial crunch.

Excuse me while I wait for someone to shoot the moon and put out the sun for me.

*Just a repost from an old blog entry. Medyo may pagkasenti kase...eh senti mode ako ngayon. Basta walang kokontra.

LIFE'S SIMPLE PLEASURES

Mei asked me to accomplish this meme, so while I am impatiently waiting for the reunion pics from my friends (anu bah...baka abutan pa yan ng 20th year naten!!) I pondered for a while what puts spice in my regimented life.

Ten simple delights that I dig..hmmm..that would be...

1. nap time after lunch during weekends

2. watching DVD's while eating kaldero-ed (not microwaved, sorry) popcorn and endless cans of ice-cold Coke.

3. bath time (while belting out Sesame Street's , "Rubber Ducky, you're the one,you make bathtime lots of fun..." )

4. playing with li'l Zoe

5. waiting for Manong magbabalut for a dose of my favorite exotic dish (at least once a week)

6. coloring my coloring book (how else should I say it?? and yeah I have several coloring book in my room)

7. cooking dinner for the family and subjecting them to "culinary torture"

8. bashing (at anyone...hehehe...you're so eee-vuhhhllll, pearl)

9. going over old stuff like letters, photo albums, clothes

10. watching "Ginintuang Telon" every Saturday. FYI, this program has been showing old LVN/Sampaguita movies and I kinda enjoy seeing the young faces of Susan Roces, Eddie Gutierrez, Gloria Romero and Dolphy. You know, those movies where they would just break into a song in the middle of a tearjerking scene or dance the boogie, rock-and-roll, or rhumba (Juanita banana..Juanita banana...)?

That's it. Can't think of anything more. And now I want abby, momel, carla, frea (are you still there, girl?), singlguy, puset, steph, stealingstars (who dropped by my blog a few days ago) to answer the same meme. Sorry di umabot ng sampu.

HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

I can't wait 'til Saturday. The much-awaited homecoming of our batch has finally materialized. There were several futile attempts by certain groups to gather the brightest, most good-looking alumni of class 1988 but I guess the right time has come.

I hope to see several personalities in this gathering. Top of my list is my high school "tropa" which includes Techie, Ana, Raquel, Gloria, Cecile, Lourdes and Clay. I guess Techie won't be there because she's in the States and she wasn't notified early on. Ana is in Muntinlupa, married with four kids. I haven't heard from her since time immemorial. Raquel is in Subic. The organizers told me they were able to contact her but were not sure if she's coming. Cecile is one of the "komite de pestejos" who prepared the audio-visual eklavu gimmick for the event. Lourdes, the baby of the group, is having second thoughts whether she'll go with her hubby (Charlie, another alumnus) or not. She has to take care of their FIVE kids. I repeat- FIVE. Clay will have the chance to say goodbye to us before leaving for Australia to be with Larry (her husband, an alumnus too) and their kidoks. Gloria, my closest pal, will be going with me. She's the panganay in our cicle. Maagang lumandi yan. She was 18 years old when she gave birth to Jezreel- my inaanak. She got separated at 21 and remarried at 34. She had numerous flings with other guys in between. Gloria is my confidante, my sister, my spa-manicure-pedicure buddy and my surrogate mom too (",)

I'll be blogging about my high school girl friends later on.

Now going back to my list. I also want to see my crush, Rico. (Geesssh...now I'm having those high school kilig feelings again...ahihihi..) I swear he looked like Clark Kent with that ooommpphh body and sexy eyeglasses. Kaya nga code name ko sa kanya nun SUPERMAN. ( Yiii....baduuyyy noh??! ) He was also a top CAT officer back then and girls would swoon over him everytime he takes over and gives commands to the entire batallion. Last thing I heard of him he was separated from his nagger-of-a-wife (ayon sa aking bubwit) which got me into thinking: so pwede na kame ???

Lastly, I wanna meet my former teachers again; those that left an indelible mark in my young life. There's Mr. Marquez (our gay Math teacher who once joked "Girls, get your Algebra book. Boys, your Alge-brief"), Mrs. Tuquib (another Math teacher who was also my KUMARE because we were neighbors back then and my mom became friends and I eventually became ninang to her eldest ) and Mrs. delos Santos, who was like a mom to our barkada. ( Epal kase kame kaya close kame sa mga teachers. ) Strange, but all my favorite teachers are MATH teachers and ironically, I hate the subject; in fact, I ABHOR it. Siguro nga masokista ko.

Haayyy...excited na ko. The reunion would be very simple. No big fuzz, no achuchuchu presentations of sorts. Just a gathering of the brightest, most gorgeous batch that our school has ever produced.

Hail, Alma Mater!

ZOE'S CHRISTENING

Zoe Ysobel was baptized in the Catholic faith last May 29th right after her mom and dad tied the knot in civil rites- yes, the same day.

She was a little pasaway though during her baptism ceremonies which obviously irked the officiating priest...hehehe....siguro dahil nabibingi na yung pari sa lakas ng ingay niya, he told my sis, "Neng, itapat mo sa electric fan yan. Ang init kase ng suot eh." Hahaha. What can we do? She's allergic to heat. Konya-in-the-making.

Anyway, Zoe was pacified though when the mom did exactly what the priest said. Then when Father I-can't-remember-his-name poured holy water on Zoe's head, the li'l rascal cried to the max again. Sabi nga ni Ninang Malen sa sis ko, "Hoy Mare, natutunaw na ata si Zoe", which sent guffaws from all the Ninongs and Ninangs around her.

When I told my sis, her hubby and baby Zoe to pose for pictures in front of the altar, the future diva stopped crying ba naman and immediately cooed and smiled at the camera! Whatta...may pagka-showbiz pa ata ang pamangkin ko!

Well, all's well that ends well. Of course, reception followed afterwards. Hehehe. Parang invitation. Dami food. Pig-out, pare.

ZOE UPDATES

Okay...while I am still thinking what my new blog would look like, I wanna brag again about my adorable, cute-as-an-angel Zoe bebe. Here are some of her latest pics. And heck, you would definitely agree with me that she oughtta be in baby commercials...Not that I wanna be a stage aunt..but hey, take a look!
